Potts broke school record but Chargers fell to IVC

Cypress, CA - Davon Potts was the spotlight on Friday night for the Chargers, setting a school record of converting 17 of 18 free throws. Eric Pauley set the school record in 1991 by converting 14 free throws.  Potts led all scorers with 29 points, 5 boards and 6 assists but the Chargers fell to IVC 83-67 and still searching for the first conference victory.  Zach Mills and Michael Boldon scored 25 points each for IVC to preserve the win.

Chargers struggled at 4th-ranked Saddleback

all Chargers

Mission Viejo, CA - The Chargers went cold in the shooting at 33% for the night and fell to Saddleback, the 4th ranked team in the state 75-49. The Gauchos defense focused on Davon Potts who was held to 10 points and forced 18 turnovers on the Chargers. However Potts kept his streak of scoring in double-digit every game so far this season. Daveon Thomas came off the bench with another double double of 12 points and 11 boards. Chris Kapono led all Chargers with 13 points. Carlton Hayes responded for the Gauchos with his own double double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Chargers fell at 5th-ranked Riverside 72-55

Riverside, CA - The Chargers traveled to Riverside, known as a hostile environment for JC Basketball in the Southland. The Riverside faithfuls once again was the 6th man for the Tigers (12-5, 2-0) which defeated the Chargers (5-14, 0-3) in good old fashion 72-55.  The Tigers opened the game with a 17-3 lead but the Charger stormed back to cut the lead to 38-33 early in the second half and managed to stay within 10 points most of the way. The 5th ranked Tigers proved to be too much for the undersized Chargers.

Four Tiger players scored in double digit with Mason Biddle leading with 15 points and 6 assists. Daveon Thomas came off the bench to contribute 16 points while Point Guard Chris Kapono dished out 7 assists. The Chargers out-rebounded the Tigers 34-32 in the losing effort.

Chargers lost lead then game

Cypress, CA - Youth and inexperience were still a factor for the Chargers as they continued to struggle to maintain a lead. Leading most of the first half, Cypress (5-13, 0-2) led 22-12 with 9:38 to go, allowed the Hornets (10-6, 1-0) to make a 18-8 run to finish the half. In the second half the Chargers battle to lead 47-43 at the 11:04 mark and once again lost the momentum when point guard Chris Kapono picked up his 4th foul. Meanwhile the Hornets went on a 26-8 run to take the lead for good.

Davon Potts led all scorers with 20 points but only shot 6-of-15 from the floor. Montel Taylor grabbed 12 boards to lead in that category. Fullerton's Chris Lewis scored a double-double of 16points/10 boards to make its presence in the paint known.

Chargers dropped conference opener to Dons

Potts scored 24 points

Cypress, CA - The Chargers fought hard on the floor in their conference home opener against the Dons of Santa Ana (11-4, 1-0)  but came up short to lose 95-84. Sophomore Davon Potts led all scorers with 24 points and five Chargers (5-12, 0-1) scored in double-digit. Vincent Gomez led the Dons with 17 points.
